We are a children's Art Club based in Claygate, Surrey. At Laila's Art Club we use real artists’ materials and tools, teach essential skills and most importantly, encourage individual exploration, expression and love for art. We are friendly, approachable and promote inspiration in a nurturing and positive environment. As Picasso famously said - "Every child is an artist". 

Run by Laila Carruthers, who is trained in Fine Art and Stop-Frame Animation, Laila's Art Club has been running for 15 years as both an after school club for Claygate Primary Pupils and as school holiday workshops locally in Claygate, which are open to all.

Both the after school club and holiday workshops vary each term. We have an interesting, fun and educational programme that includes a mixture of exploring and learning new skills as well as developing and nurturing individual talents. Some of the activities we have covered are model-making, watercolours, collages, cartoons, still life drawing, painting acrylics on canvas, mosaics and pottery.

All groups are kept small so that we are able to give each child individual attention to maximise their learning and creativity. The children will be encouraged to develop their own style in their artwork, but we also expect them to “stretch themselves” and not always choose the easiest option.
